Mandela Day

SPREAD THE LOVE WITH 67 FRIENDS ON MANDELA DAY"

GET YOUR FRIENDS TO SEND AN SMS IN AID OF INNOVATION FOR THE BLIND: WORCESTER

As Nelson Mandela so famously put it: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

“This year marks a major milestone in the incredible story of Nelson Mandela – his centenary,” says Albie Heigers, CEO of Innovation for the Blind: “He had given 67 years of his life to fight for justice. The global drive of using one day to give back happens on Madiba’s birthday, 18 July, when people across the world are invited to spend 67 minutes giving back. This year, Innovation for the Blind, previously known as The Institute for the Blind, would like to mark this important occasion by inviting everyone to get 67 of their family and friends to support our worthy cause.”

Celebrating 137 years of making a difference, Innovation for the Blind is situated in the Care Capital of South Africa, Worcester. This non-profit organisation empowers visually impaired persons to reach their full potential in a world tailor made for persons with five senses – see, hear, smell, taste and feel. As a high functioning, transparent and accountable Non-Profit Organisation, Innovation for the Blind proudly challenges the norms in fundraising.

Heigers challenges all South Africans to become part of Mandela’s legacy. “All you need to do is take a minute to SMS ‘blind’ to 40069 for a R20 donation and challenge 67 of your friends to do the same. It is that easy. Changing the world for the better is up to all of us, which is why initiatives such as Mandela Day are so important. Take up Mandela’s call and make a difference. It’s in your hands.”

He concludes: “What is simpler than sending an SMS on Mandela Day. Giving back always makes one feel valued. We’d like to thank each and every one who will be participating and support our drive to get their friends and family to also participate. Together we can make a tangible difference to the lives of the visually impaired!”

All funds generated through this project will be channelled towards the support of blind adults, cared for by Innovation for the Blind.
