Dare to Care: Innovation celebrates extraordinary women

August is Women’s Month – and each year Women’s Day is celebrated on the 9th of August. Women’s Day celebrates the strength and resilience of women, and Sanna, Innovation for the Blinds’ friendly switchboard operator, is a true example of strength and resilience.
Imagine opening your eyes one morning and all you see is darkness. Have you ever thought of who you would turn to for help if you lost your sight?
Sanna was partially sighted since the age of 7. One morning, at the age of 27, she woke up and her sight was gone.
Sanna lost her sight due to a torn retina. After her initial frustration, shock, and overwhelming anger, she eventually made peace with her situation, thanks to the support and encouragement of Innovation for the Blind – a safe, all-inclusive working, training, and living environment empowering persons with visual and additional impairments. Here Sanna lives independently, learned new life skills, successfully completed advanced Computer courses, mastered Braille, and received Orientation and Mobility Training. Sanna has been Innovation for the Blinds’ friendly Switchboard Operator since 1 April 2017 and now even offers informal training to other persons with visual impairments.
Sanna is grateful for a safe haven like Innovation for the Blind that she could turn to. Her motto is to live every day to the fullest and to be an inspiration to others through her actions and achievements.
Sanna is a brave and inspiring young woman…and we are proud to say that she is one of many extraordinary women at Innovation for the Blind striving towards making a difference.
